Back to school time is always busy.  This year is no exception.  Here are some snapshots of the first three weeks of P4.  

JaQuin makes a great lookout on the playground.

Chantel is a woman after my own heart.  Taking a moment to relax with a story by Mo Willems.  I don't think I will ever get too old for ANY of his books.

This year I have already taught my students so much about labels and organization.  Cristina's desk is organized just perfectly. :-)

I have also taught my students about one of my favorite things ever ---my label maker.  This is a close up of Cristina's desk labels.  I'm pretty sure some of my students have come to love the label maker too. 

Everything at Cristina's desk is labeled AND kept in the correct place!

Even our community table buckets are labeled.  This bucket was looking pretty good -  so I had to take a picture.   I hope it says like this ALL year! :-)

P4 is a room FULL of engaged learners!!!

This week we have focused on what it looks like to be an ENGAGED LEARNER.  

Engaged learners are an active part of their life as a student - they ask questions when they don't understand, work together on classroom tasks & focus on their learning.  Look how P4 students described engaged learners.

Here we go...!!!

I am going to start this post by quoting some parts of Walk On! by Marla Frazee...

"The first thing you've got to do is stand on your own two feet.  It sounds easier than it is.  

You will need support.  This is tricky because sometimes what you think will support you won't.  ...  

Block out all of those voices saying: Come on! Come on!  It's easy!  This is boring.  Let's go already.  .... Only begin when YOU are ready.  

Important! 

Don't look down at your feet. 

Look toward where you want to go. 

Imagine yourself as already there."

This year has QUICKY passed us by and a part of me (a BIG part of me) is wondering if I/we did all we could do to prepare ourselves for what's next (ummm...like 5th grade and EOGs!).  But, we have ALL worked hard this year - as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, citizens, technology techies', friends, students, and teachers.  4th graders - you've got this....I KNOW you are ready for the next step.  

Here are some very important things to remember:

* PLEASE make sure you get at least 10 hours of sleep on school nights

* PLEASE make sure you arrive to school on time on testing days

* PLEASE talk with your family about the strategies you are using to help make you successful, some of the lessons you have learned as we have practiced test taking, and your thoughts about the EOG

* PLEASE share your goals with your family so that they can help you achieve them

* PLEAE let me know (and your family know) what we can do to help you and support you (we have high expectations for you because you can do anything you put your mind to)

* Most importantly, believe in yourself and DO THE BEST THAT YOU CAN!

Monday, May 16th - student survey (your child can explain this to you)

Tuesday, May 17th - Reading EOG (testing will begin at 8:00)

Wednesday, May 18th - Math calculator active EOG (testing will begin at 8:00)

Thursday, May 19th - Math calculator INactive (testing will begin at 8:00)

Friday, May 20th - testing makeups for students that were absent will begin today

Results will most likely be back at some time on Friday.  Students will be informed about their results on Friday or Monday if the results come back after students have left.

SACK the EOGs with the one and only...Sir Purr!

Sir Purr visited East Elementary to pump us up to SACK the EOGs!!!  During the pep rally, Sir Purr gave us some valuable advice....

C - confidence

H - healthy eating

REACH --- we are ready to reach for the stars and sack the EOGs!

hip hip horray for our wonderful notebooks from our b.f.f. ... Classroom Central!

LOVE does not even describe our affection for our new notebooks!

They are so very perfect as we begin to prepare ourselves for EOG testing (yikes!!!).

Charlotte Motor Speedway field trip

We had a blast visiting Charlotte's very own Motor Speedway for our intercession field trip!  I, for one, now understand why people love NASCAR so much!  The sound of the cars racing by us was incredible and we really enjoyed sitting in the stands to cheer as cars zoomed past us!
